← Back to PracticePlayPracticePlay is designed to keep your recordings and your practice on your device. This policy explains what that means in practice.
Summary
- Recordings stay on your device. They are never uploaded to a server, shared with any service, or used to train any model.
- PracticePlay does not require an account. There is nothing to log into.
- We do not collect personal information beyond what Apple makes available through the App Store.
- We use anonymous, aggregate analytics in the app and on this website. Neither identifies you.
What we collect
- Microphone audio. PracticePlay records audio on your device when it detects music. Recordings are stored locally on your device and only ever leave it if you choose to share them — for example, by sending a recording via Messages, Mail, or AirDrop.
- App Store purchase data. When you purchase PracticePlay or use a free trial, Apple processes the transaction. Apple shares aggregate, anonymized purchase information with us. We don't see your name, email, or payment details.
- App usage analytics. PracticePlay sends anonymous, aggregate usage signals — which screens get used, which actions are taken, and crash reports — so we can keep improving the app. No audio, no personal information, and no per-user identifiers ever leave your device. We use TelemetryDeck for this if you want to read about how it works.
- Website analytics. We use Google Analytics on www.practiceplay.app to understand basic, aggregated usage of the website — pages visited, approximate location, and device type. This information is not personally identifying. Google Analytics sets cookies to recognize repeat visits and group activity into sessions; these cookies do not contain personally identifying information. We do not use this data for advertising or remarketing. If you would prefer to opt out, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On or use a privacy-focused browser extension.
What we don't collect
- We don't collect your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, or any other contact information.
- We don't collect your location.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't fingerprint your device.
- We don't store your recordings on any server we operate.
- We don't sell or share data with third-party data brokers.
Permissions
PracticePlay requests microphone access to listen for and record music. This is the only permission required for the app's core functionality. You can revoke microphone access at any time in your device's Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Children's privacy
PracticePlay is suitable for users of all ages, including students. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or under the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). The app's privacy-first design means there is generally no personal information for us to collect from any user, regardless of age.
Your recordings
Your recordings are yours. They live on your device. We don't have access to them, can't read them, and can't restore them if your device is lost or wiped. Back them up the same way you'd back up anything else important on your device.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
